IDEAS

Add any ideas for things you'd like to do/build below...

“Eurostat for data hackers” Guide (proposed by RichardC)
  • A short tutorial document
  • Gives an introduction to the data available at Eurostat
  • Target audience: application/mashup developers

European Energy Data in Eurostat:
  • Give compelling top level overview of energy production/consumption in different EU member states

General ideas:
  • Browsing and navigation tools
  • Combining Eurostat data with national statistics, maps, Wikipedia/Freebase and other data sources (Norwegian company register is queryable through a RESTFULL service at https://ws.brreg.no/lod/page/992918551 where last 8-digit number is  a companies organisational/VAT number. Can be hooked  up to some other national statistics.
  • Brainstorming and planning future joint efforts around Eurostat data
  • Do some journalistic work on data and help visualize it
  • Let users create graphs with different data, save the result graph, and let other users "Like" this graph. Imagine a Digg with different graphs comparing different data sources. We could discover very interesting related info. <- Great Point!
  • Using Semantic MediaWiki for creating, browsing, and discussing of eurostat query results.

Non-Objectives
  • Talk about DataCube, SCOVO, SDMX/RDF etc. too much (use them as means, not ends)

Ideas from Eurostat (John Allen and others)

 Population balance (Bill Roberts)
  •  taking population, birth, death, migration data and looking at population changes per country
  • starting with making datacube RDF versions of selected data
